UP 1943 turned on Cheyenne turntable, etc.
Author: highgreengraphics

Photo 1 - With only three observers, UP 1943 gets turned to face east on the Cheyenne turntable.

Photo 2 - Looking from the rear at the colorful locomotive being turned.

Photo 3 - Centering more on the POW-MIA panel on the rear of 1943.

Photo 4 - On the way to Crow Creek and the reverse move to the turntable, UP 1943 leaves the diesel servicing area.

Photo 5 - Backing under the C&S Bridge as a westbound stacker rolls past.

Photo 6 - This was UP 1943's location on the P-1 Main parked next to the Cheyenne Depot Museum for display for only an hour and a half. The locomotive is to leave going east tomorrow. The train that was with it with the "Spirit of Union Pacific" drumhead on the platform-obs business car was nowhere to be seen in Cheyenne.

An interesting creative paint job from the hearts of many, inspired by our appreciation, to be sure! === === = === JLH

Nice shots! Any idea what train it's heading east on?

I thought it was cool enough after the unveil but the photos haven't really done it justice, until now. Roster shot on the turntable is off the charts cool. I expected no less from you! Hope to see it one day before it's filthy.

I wish we'd stop glorifying war with stuff like this.  Will UP paint a unit for the winner of the Nobel Peace prize?  The U.S. has killed millions overseas...

The odd thing about this is that since 2011, the turntable has been off limits for turning anything but steam shop equipment. Enforced rigidly by the DL.

The crew said they ended up with a time constraint: Either run it around the balloon track, which would take an hour, run it out to the Denver Wye at Speer, which, depending on traffic, could take much more than an hour, or risk the rickety track leading to the turntable. The latter was chosen, and they were told they had better not put it on the ground. They also described how actually shaky the turntable was. All ended up okay, and they arrived at the depot spot slightly early. === === = === JLH
