Rosenberg, Texas question
Author: zfan

I've been watching that new camera at Rosenberg, Texas (Tower 17) and have been wondering.... Are the westbound BNSF trains off the UP Glidden Sub, that veer back on to the BNSF at the diamond, trains from New Orleans (off ex-SP Sunset route)? Seems to be quite a few. Thanks in advance to an expert in that territory.

In theory, it's possible, but not likely. New Orleans traffic would most likely catch the Silsbee and Conroe subs,
a much shorter and quicker route (Beaumont to Somerville) than going through Houston. I think the only exception to
this generally is the Mossville coal traffic.

Significant amount of BNSF traffic originating in Houston will run the Glidden.

Why Glidden; nothing there? Would think all BNSF traffic would turn north at Richmond.

It does...Glidden is the name of the UP subdivision in Rosenberg.

Coming out of south yard, it is a much quicker cut-off to run west on glidden sub, than to run down bnsf mykawa sub and then north on galveston sub.
