Western Railroad Discussion > Injured Gerdau end cab switcher headed to the shopDate: 04/11/18 11:07 Injured Gerdau end cab switcher headed to the shop Author: AndyBrown Gerdau Ameristeel's Wilton, Iowa plant switcher was pulled this morning by Iowa Interstate's Wilton Local (technically SISW- Silvis Switcher, I think) crew, en route to Relco at Albia, IA, for repairs after an unknown accident at the plant, causing definite and obvious injury to the cab!

Date: 04/11/18 14:41 Re: Injured Gerdau end cab switcher headed to the shop Author: callum_out That's an interesting operation, but enough about their business practices. We were out there one morning
working on a bid for roll stand bearings and I happened to notice that the rail door on the North end of Bldg 2 was stove in much like that cab. I didn't ask but they handle odd scrap in gons, somne of which is loaded angled, not flat and I surmised that during a hard stop (you need to watch them switch!!) some of the load "flipped" over and hit the door. Be much the same with the switcher cab with a similar load. Out Date: 04/11/18 23:23 Re: Injured Gerdau end cab switcher headed to the shop Author: Hookdragkick Spin it on the table and repeat.
