Injured Gerdau end cab switcher headed to the shop
Author: AndyBrown

Gerdau Ameristeel's Wilton, Iowa plant switcher was pulled this morning by Iowa Interstate's Wilton Local (technically SISW- Silvis Switcher, I think) crew, en route to Relco at Albia, IA, for repairs after an unknown accident at the plant, causing definite and obvious injury to the cab!

Poor little guy...

Andy

Looks like that switcher has a real "headache".

Would have looked good with slanted Rio Grande or Espee lettering.

That's an interesting operation, but enough about their business practices. We were out there one morning
working on a bid for roll stand bearings and I happened to notice that the rail door on the North end of
Bldg 2 was stove in much like that cab. I didn't ask but they handle odd scrap in gons, somne of which is
loaded angled, not flat and I surmised that during a hard stop (you need to watch them switch!!) some of
the load "flipped" over and hit the door. Be much the same with the switcher cab with a similar load.
