Western Railroad Discussion > I Had To Go To Modesto, But I Did Shoot A VidDate: 04/15/18 19:49 I Had To Go To Modesto, But I Did Shoot A Vid Author: Larry020 Modesto is about 80 miles south of Sacramento, and about 95 miles east of San Francisco. I trust that you have heard of at least one of those cities.
This was filmed today (15 APR 18) before a live studio audience at the Amtrak Station on the formerly ATSF mainline. Modesto is also served by UP trains on the old WP tracks. Although shooting into the sun, I wanted to have the steam locomotive in the background to show how old meets new at this new location for the ATSF 4-8-4. ⅂ɐɹɹʎ You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Actually Western Pacific never went to Modesto. UP runs on former Tidewater Southern (although most have been torn out) and Southern Pacific tracks. Edited 1 time(s). By the time that I became a railfan in the early 1980’s, everything started turning yellow around those parts. I did get to see trains running down 9th St. Thank God the Espee would never suffer that same fate.. ATSF RR Bob (I think that’s his handle here on TO) and I saw a UP local working around Mariposa, but didn’t bother to even slow down. We still had an appointment to make. A couple hours later I was shooting the video, so everything worked out well. This is the first video that I’ve recorded on my new picture taker, an iPhone X. Once again I forgot to clean the lens prior to the picture taken process. I thought of it during the fliming, but it was too late. I hate it when I make misteaks. ⅂ɐɹɹʎ Date: 04/15/18 21:22 Re: I Had To Go To Modesto, But I Did Shoot A Vid Author: Margaret_SP_fan Larry --
Thanks for the video -- and thanks for showing the whole train. "Misteaks" -- LOL! And how on earth did you get TO to display your name upside-down? :) Very clever! Edited 1 time(s). Google is my friend. ⅂ɐɹɹʎ Date: 04/16/18 04:49 Re: I Had To Go To Modesto, But I Did Shoot A Vid Author: sp8234 Nice video Larry but Bob is in it.(LOL)
Thanks for the whole train. Tim Hanesworth Date: 04/16/18 10:19 Re: I Had To Go To Modesto, But I Did Shoot A Vid Author: SantaFeRuss EricSP Wrote:

That would be my guess why there is no Locotrol (DPU). A small nit but the Tidewater Southern was a wholly owned subsidiary of Western Pacific and was assimilated into the "Borg" realm when the WP-UP-MP "merger" happened. Same for the remnants of the Sacramento Northern. So technically WP did reach into Modesto, albeit indirectly. best regards, Mark G. Date: 04/17/18 18:31 Re: I Had To Go To Modesto, But I Did Shoot A Vid Author: Larry020 Alright, y’all forced me to show my hand. For those out of the area, and or out of the country/continent I dumbed down my post. I mentioned how far away San Francisco is because a lot of people all around the world have heard of SF. I should have mentioned that 80 miles = 128.748 kilometers.
I mentioned WP for similar reasons. I’m surprised that no one mentioned my subject line “poetry.” I Had To Go To Modesto, But I Did Shoot A Vid It took me a couple minutes to come up with that one. I hope y’all enjoyed it! ⅂ɐɹɹʎ Date: 04/21/18 22:39 Re: I Had To Go To Modesto, But I Did Shoot A Vid Author: EricSP MarkG Wrote:

Yes TS was a subsidiary of WP but it was TS, not WP, that went through Modesto. |
