Upcoming Mexican Elections and the KCS
Author: Northern

How will the elections in Mexico affect the Kansas City Southern's lines in Mexico? Which of the candidates could be more favorable to sustaining the current KCSM system and which could present a more difficult situation there? Could KCS consider selling their Mexican operations if the political environment is unfavorable to them post election?

KCS said on its earnings call today that the presidential candidates have told them they support the current Mexican railroad concession and the rule of law, so no matter who wins it should be status quo as far as KCS continuing with its long-term concession to run lines in Mexico.

How is the KCSdeM doing these days? I understood their grain hauls south and vegetable hauls north were very strong.

More important is what happens if the NAFTA renegotiation fails.
