Western Railroad Discussion > Motel with U-30c near front yd, stuffed and mounted!Date: 04/23/18 09:27 Motel with U-30c near front yd, stuffed and mounted! Author: slacks Good for a railfan stay at Gillette Wy, new motel near BN U-30c and mining display. Only a couple of blocks from the mainline it used to work on. Upscale steakhouse is downtown next to the BNSF crewchange yardoffice with a good veiw of the action. But the U-boats no longer prowl the tracks. Maybe someday a SD-70 MAC in BN green and cream will join 5802!

It looks like somebody has gone to great lengths and put in some considerable work to produce this little park. But I do have a question: Was the backward stylized "B" on the cab done on purpose, or was that just a boo-boo. It reminds me of my very own occasional typos. (to which I have resigned myself... ;^)
Lance/199 Date: 04/23/18 10:10 Re: Motel with U-30c near front yd, stuffed and mounted! Author: fbe The BN logo is a stick on which someone peeled off and inverted. The doors below the cab have been lifted off and rearranged so Burlington Northern is no longer centered beneath the cab.
There is an earlier photo of this unit on display on the web with the photographer's girlfriend standing on the steps. Date: 04/23/18 10:19 Re: Motel with U-30c near front yd, stuffed and mounted! Author: Ritzville Thanks for the interesting look of a U-30c in green BN colors.

But the "N" is correct here.... Date: 04/23/18 10:44 Re: Motel with U-30c near front yd, stuffed and mounted! Author: ExSPCondr The motel looks suspiciously like an Oak Tree, which are built near crew change points.
They have special dark and quiet rooms. G Date: 04/23/18 11:09 Re: Motel with U-30c near front yd, stuffed and mounted! Author: fbe The capital N is like ambidexterous, sometimes it works both ways.

So SHOW us a non-edited photo with the B correct & the N backwards. I've never seen one in the 44 years the BN has been around... Date: 04/23/18 11:26 Re: Motel with U-30c near front yd, stuffed and mounted! Author: fbe Just look at the posted photo, is the N right side up? Now turn the photo upside down. Is there any change in the look of the N?

You mean like AC/DC? ;^) Date: 04/23/18 11:33 Re: Motel with U-30c near front yd, stuffed and mounted! Author: santafe199 fbe Wrote: > ... turn the photo upside down ...
Ok. Got it. I took your word inverted literally. My mistake... Lance Date: 04/23/18 11:40 Re: Motel with U-30c near front yd, stuffed and mounted! Author: fresno The hotel in the photo is an Arbuckle Lodge, a chain I've never heard of before. No idea on whether or not the railroaders are staying at that place.
Thanks for the old GE unit photos, as I sure miss seeing those units haul the goods on the BN back in the day. Date: 04/23/18 12:31 Re: Motel with U-30c near front yd, stuffed and mounted! Author: loopy7764 What's inside the cab?
Date: 04/23/18 16:49 Re: Motel with U-30c near front yd, stuffed and mounted! Author: CPR_4000 Those other engines look interesting . . . two inline and it's hard to make out the one in the distance.

Author: rrman6 All great but something just waiting for the vandals/taggers to deface and trash the internals of the cab, just like many stuffed and mounted steamers with broken headlights, gauges, etc.
I hate these type people, but what can we do? At least if lighting and security cameras of today are used, it might inhibit these characters some. Author: fbe A park display with no fence in Gillette, WY obviously suffers less vandalism than active locomotives in the LA basin.
