More on BN U-30c in Alliance park.
Author: slacks

I don,t have a shot of the cab but most of the controls are still there, but all gage lights are gone. Someone is taking care of it as you can see the green pt covering the graffiti by the morons! Also I believe it,s original number was 5302 as it was an early remote/dpu unit.

The unit is on display in Gillette, WY not Alliance, NE.

GE U30C units came as 5300s which were straight standard locomotives. 5800 series were the Locotrol masters and 5900s were Locotrol remotes. Unlike today's DPUs the masters could not be reconfigured as remotes and the remotes could not be used as masters. I doubt this unit has been renumbered while in service nor for display.

There were also about 10 older U30Cs of pre merger C&S heritage in the 800 series.

Brutes in their day; relegated to relics today. Still an elegant work of GE engineering!

C&S units were 890-893 re # 5396-5399. They were common around Omaha being based @ Lincoln.
