Western Railroad Discussion > IAIS + NS Heritage TrioDate: 04/24/18 03:49 IAIS + NS Heritage Trio Author: trainboy03 On Monday evening the regular Iowa Interstate eastbound CBBI departed Silvis with IAIS 513, IAIS 516, NS 9059, and NS 1066. The heritage trio drew a crowd at Colona, IL (drone shot), but my dad and I were the only ones on the bridge at Wyanet (2 & 3).
NS 1066 will go back to the NS on a loaded ethanol while the IAIS pair will continue in regular service. Date: 04/25/18 03:35 Re: IAIS + NS Heritage Trio Author: trainboy03 No, the trails (since modified) parallel the canal and were originally used by horses to pull boats.

KCCharlie Date: 04/25/18 23:17 Re: IAIS + NS Heritage Trio Author: coach What canal is that? Do I see a "lock" basin where the concrete is in that 2nd photo? Is it still active? I had no idea a lock existed there!
Date: 04/26/18 00:00 Re: IAIS + NS Heritage Trio Author: RailRat Wow, great to see that cool mix of units, and would that be part of the good ol' Erie Canal?
Congrats on IOTD! Jim Baker Riverside, CA Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/26/18 00:06 by RailRat. Date: 04/26/18 00:44 Re: IAIS + NS Heritage Trio Author: Xtra276West coach Wrote:

I had no idea a lock existed there! That'd be the Hennepin Canal; many decades ago, my family had a distant relative working the 'locks' near Sheffield, Illinois. Downstream towards Tiskilwa, it gets even more interesting....."canal-wise". Knew virtually nothing about that canal/area 'til June, 2004 & September, 2006 whilst chasing MILW 261 over to Bureau, and back. A DeLorme map was most helpful! Good stuff, Erik!
