a few from the neighborhood . . .
Author: 3rdswitch

. . . specifically the joint UP BNSF Denver Pueblo Joint Line main in the vicinity of Palmer Lake, CO, the mid way point on the line. This morning the lake LOOKED calm until I went down to catch this northbound coal empty passing the lake suddenly filling with ripples (top), Unfortunately, the new fountain has been recently restored in the middle of the lake making it especially hard to catch something in a glass like lake. This afternoon, heard of a southbound BNSF Officers Special coming out of Denver. With a southbound lined up for better than a half hour figured it was for the special so headed a mile north of town with perfect timing as here he came passing through the "sag" (middle) then raced ahead to the lake for another grab shot (bottom). Seems like only the specials on the transcon get the good clean or new power with most of our specials getting whatever unit was available. Nice seeing something half way clean on this one. As additional info, the SAG is so named as it is a location where the original Santa Fe main passed over the top of the Rio Grande main before the creation of the Joint Line where the Santa Fe overpass was eliminated with the line connecting to the former DRGW.

Nice catches. Always good to see class looking passenger equipment.
