Original SP Signal Bridges on Donner Pass
Author: BoilingMan

I got to wondering just how many of the original SP Signal Bridges are still up on Donner.  I found 23 of them on Google Earth (marked in red).  It's possible I missed a few, but I'm going to say nearly all!   Only a few of them are still in use, so I would think many may be scraped at some point, but I've seen no indication of that happening right now.
Just figured someone else might be interested in this.

I also marked the newer aluminum bridges the UPRR has added in yellow..

Let's hope the UP signal dept. doesn't spot this little revelation... LOL

Definitely a helpful aid for rail historians, though.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to put it together.

Last time I looked Cisco was still there.

How about West Truckee?

The East end of Shed 10 is in use- new LED signals, but the bridge is original.  The searchlights are still there, but turned.

It's sad the original signal bridges on most routes are gone, I still regret not getting the one in Tehacapi before UP took it down!

All those yellow arrows are new bridges?
None are cantilevers?

Where's the one at Emigrant Gap?

The one at Emigrant Gap is actually up against I-80 on the West end of Switch 9, and I think it’s a cantilever, but it’s a new aluminum UPRR type.
SP didn’t put up many cantilevers on Donner- the only one I recall off-hand was down in Boca on the Truckee River.
