UP Congestion between Salt Lake City to Ogden
Author: ShastaDaylight

Does anyone know why UP has over a half a dozen trains sitting between North yard in Salt Lake and Clearfield, Utah? Just seen from Northbound UTA FrontRunner.

Thanks for any info!

Best wishes,

Probably still filtering re-routed I-5 traffic through there a big reason.

It's been that way every morning for many years.

Yep. Can be really congested at times even in normal situations, minus detours.

May be time to bring back the 'Unlimited Parking' paint scheme.

They are very short of crews due to the re-routes and just because they are short crews in general.

Real simple - shortage of crews in SLC, Ogden and LV, plus too many trains showing up at the terminals with the reroutes. Whole rosters of pool crews have been out of people over the past two weeks, so the trains were getting parked - everywhere! Looks like the backlog of parked trains is finally getting cleared out a little bit now that the reroutes are ending.

UP said it could handle it...NOT!
