ex-WP GP40 Leading out of KC

Clouds or not, I was happy to have nabbed that ex-WP 40 outside of KC this afternoon. This is UP's MKCSJ, which has operated over the BNSF via trackage rights to St. Joseph, MO, since the line between Atchison, KS and Rushville, MO washed out a few years back. Clarke can be found in Riverside, MO, alongside MO Hwy. 9.

The 9990 is one of a small handful of units left on the roster that has the Jenks lettering on the long hood, and the trailing unit is one of just three C40-8's left on the roster, the 9152.

Thanks for looking,
- Jeff Carlson

Amazing there almost extinct, they're used to be hundreds on the roster. Wow.

Thanks Jeff. I had no idea the UP had that much business in St. Joe.

Nice shot! That unit was stuck on the Muskogee-Tulsa, OK for who knows how long. Sure was a worn out looking unit. Glad you could get it in different territory.

A few years ago, I spoke with an ex MP trainman from St. Joseph, MO. When he started out in 1973, MP had 13-14 switch jobs in St. Joseph, MO alone. This is separate from UP-ATSF's St. Joseph Terminal.  brc600
