Western Railroad Discussion > Taking on the clouds last Sunday

Last weekend was quite the one for low clouds and fog here in the Southern California basin area. I decided to challenge the clouds and wait on their edge at Silverwood, just below Summit of Cajon Pass, trying for something a little different. It was my first return to this area since the Blue Cut Fire and subsequent closure almost two years ago. Here are a few of the results, all taken last Sunday June 17.

1) An eastbound UP manifest behind SD70ACe 8725, finds sunlight as it passes MP57 at 7:30AM.

2) Next up was a westbound BNSF stack train dropping down out of Summit behind SD70ACe 9189.

3) A wider angle of the same train.

4) BNSF 7863 looks to have been recently washed as it leads an eastbound stack train. In the distance, a southbound UP manifest bound for West Colton.

5) BNSF SD70ACe 8529 was on the point of the next westbound, two Aces in less than hour is pretty rare here in SoCal.

6) I followed him back down to Pine Lodge where the clouds almost got even with me but, I managed to find a partial “sucker hole” of sunlight.

Nothing really too out of the ordinary here but still, I left for home feeling somewhat victorious. Thanks for taking the time to look.

Nice light, with direct sunlight on the train and shadows in the background.  (Too often, it seems to work out just the opposite.)
