The Wall Street Journal has an article about the rapid pace on change on midwestern grain farms.  Cargill, a major buyer, has closed many local elevators and consolidated business at regional elevators and storage facilities.  That allows them to make up unit trains of bulk commodities. Until recently, the local farmers have had to take it or leave it when Cargill makes an offer.  But, not any more.

Farmers have expanded their holdings, and are now equipped with instant feeds of grain prices. Organic product buyers don't want bulk commodities. They want to track products back to a specific field, and they're willing to pay for it.

Ironically, some farmers have bought abandoned Cargill storage facilities to store grains for later sale, when the price is better.

You can abuse customers for only so long before they find out they don't need you.

You know, no one is forcing you to use them. Spectrum and Dish would love your business.
Of course I've heard stories about them too.
