Author: bradleymckay

Overview (week 32 vs. same week in 2017):

Grain loadings up for 3rd straight week, weakness in frac sand loadings, big surge in shipments of petroleum products, motor vehicle/parts traffic above UP's quarterly estiments,  and strong intermodal shipments.

Grain up 16%
Stone/gravel/sand down 14% (was down 3% the previous week)
Petroleum products up 51% (4,820 vs. 3,186 same week last year)
Motor vehicles/parts up 11%

Others

Coal down 7% (24,117 vs. 25,942).  Big chunk of this is loss of a coal contract to BNSF.
Lumber/wood products up 10%
Stone/clay/glass up 9%
Grain mill products up 11%
Metals/metal products up 19%

Intermodal:

Containers up 7% (76,443 vs. 71,660)

Carloads up 2%, intermodal up 8%, combined total up 5% verses same week in 2017.
