Visiting the FRC Today?....Wait A While
Author: icancmp193

A tank truck overturned near Keddie in the Feather River Canyon at about 8:30 this AM. Highway 70 is closed in both directions. There is a fuel spill and the Union Pacific has been advised not to run any trains due to fear of sparking. Looks like at least several hours before the road wil be open because as of 9:12 AM the CalTrans HazMat Team is at least 2 hours away.

When you only have 1 road, things like this pretty much tie the area in knots....
I'm not sure how the "cement mixer" in the CHP post fits into the overall scheme of things.

The towing company wanted to know if they had enough time to upright a cement truck while they were waiting to get access to the tank truck.

Current estimated time of road opening is 1500-1600 hours. Minor injuries to driver, who did a very effective job of blocking the highway.
BNSF Gateway Sub up the hill to the right. UP FRC main tunnels under the highway just east of this spot.
Then the trains will run "like streetcars", ha-ha.

Please make sure to contact the CHP with your first hand direct knowledge of exactly what happened.

I remember a lumber truck doing exactly the same thing on 44 in a light snow, doesn't help traffic flow
at all!

Please provide a screen shot of that exact statement on their Facebook page, because I was not able to find it.

Update. The driver of the involved vehicle walked away with minor injuries. Sr-70 will be closed until the roadway can be cleared and cleaned up. Please avoid the area. Thank you for your patience while crews work hard to clear this incident. We will advise when we have an ETA for the roadway to be open.https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-0/s480x480/41711320_1953746791401915_5919108302809071616_n.jpg?_nc_cat=1&oh=6d362ce8c4907d5e609dab3394c4ca76&oe=5C338919

Will I guess I and everyone else need new glasses because I still don't see the line "who did a very effective job of blocking the highway" anywhere there, as you are so adamantly claiming.

What effing difference does it make? Did you look at the pic? You don't need the CHP to tell you the highway was very effictively blocked by the wreckage. It doesn't matter what the cause was or whether the driver was at fault or not, the highway is clearly blocked completely. It was the first thing I thought when I saw the pic too. There was definitely no getting around that.

Because by the way that icancmp193 injected his own opinion into what he is claiming is a CHP statement, he is implying that the driver's intention was to block the highway.

You really have too much time on your hands to troll. I never claimed the "highway blocking" was a CHP statement or that it was the driver's intention. As trainjunkie pointed out, the picture showed that the blockage was very effective. And, you don't live around here in the first place and hopefully are not coming here anytime soon. Those of us who do live here have to deal with not being able to get to/from work, lack of mail and some supplies, the inability of visitors to get to actual planned events, and so on.

To ny comment on the 44 lumber truck accident, the detour meant going all the way to Westwood and over the hill to 44
on a road which was yet to be cleared. You have to appreciate that in areas with such limited access that a wreck like
this can affect a lot of people.

I agree that looks like Williams Tank Lines.  From all accounts I hear, they are a nice, well-run company, and are known for taking on new tanker drivers and teaching them safe driving.

Tankers are hard to drive.  That liquid inside is constantly sloshing around, and unless the tanks are well baffled, you can get some real bad load shifts going on when braking, or entering / leaving curves.  Come into a curve a bit too fast, hit the brakes too hard, turn the wheel a bit too tight, and WHAM0! you can end up on your side like this poor fellow did.  He's super lucky he didn't die, or get roasted in a giant ball of flame.

To everyone out there:  if you see a tanker, give them all the room they need.  DON'T CUT IN FRONT OF THEM--I see this all the time because dimwits forget to read the big, overhead green signs announcing exits well over a mile in advance.  Fall in BEHIND the tanker, then exit safely.  GIVE THEM ALL THE ROOM THEY NEED.  It is such a stressful job driving fuel trucks, because simply put, you could die on any run.  Think about that, and then please show them courtesy.
