End of an Era on the old EsPee
Author: EMDSW-1

Last night the LIL75 (Oregon City Switcher) with UP 1204 made its final trip from Clackamas (OR) to Canby to pull 24 cars from the Oregon Pacific interchange and return to Albina Yard for the very last time. This marks the end of perhaps the longest remaining true "local" on the Oregon Division having existed mainly to switch the profitable paper mill business in Oregon City prior to the mill closing several years ago leaving only a handful of customers in the Clackamas Industrial Park with the major traffic coming off OPR's Molalla Division.

Monday morning wilk see a new operator for the Clackamas Industrial Park in the form of the Clackamas Valley Railway LLC (a division of Progressive Rail mentioned in previous post) who has leased a SW 1500 from Western Rail (WRIX) which recently worked for EVRAZ Steel at their Rivergate, OR mill. WRIX 820 should feel right at home in Clackamas since she was originally a COTTON BELT unit SSW 2582 and most likely saw service here in Oregon during her EsPee career..

Do you know if a through train or local will do the interchange work at Clackamas and Canby. Prehaps you can get better than once a week service?

UP has recently been delivering (since last winter's meltdown)  the Canby on Saturday nite with the MPDEU.

Currently their "PSR Plan" is to pick up on Friday nite with the MPDEU and take them to Eugene and then back to Albina the next day on the MEUPD which increases transit time by two days.

As to receiving additional switches we are good with the current (proposed) schedule as long as it is consistent so we have cars on Monday.
