Ludlow, California then and now on the Needles Sub.
Author: DonWinslow

Was and even now is a busy place. Lots of RR action but the place is mostly a ghost town. The RR still has a small yard there. The town has 2 gas stations, a small motel and a coffee shop. The rest of the town has long been a ghost with an old  cemetary and many abandoned buildings. In the old days the Tonapah and Tidewater RR had a large operation there with a large yard and shops. You can check this out by going to my web page, click on Railroads, then Historic and scroll down to Ludlow. Lots of photos to look at.
1. Ludlow in the early years.
2, Ludlow now.

Yep, Ludlow once had 3 railroads:  AT&SF, T&T, and Ludlow & Southern.

Don, do you remember what camera you were using when you took that first shot?

Actually I do. It was the one that you gave me after you had used it for the last 15 years which was back in the 30's.

That must have been one big camera going back to 1915!

Well Christina, Old Geezer PhotoBob did pretty good with that heavy old camera. He would arrive with this old jack pulling a red wagon with his camera mounted in it. Somehow he seemed to manage getting some pretty good train photos with that rig. That was his first railfan vehicle.

or aged as the case may be.

A lot of concrete ties in the picture, even used for that short pocket track. Is that typical?

ROFLMAO!! That Jack has almost the same look as the Thoroughbred did when hurricane hunter was trying to convert it into a quartered horse.

Always enjoy shots at Ludlow, both current and historical. In the first image, wasn't that the T&T business/ Presidents car under the canopy? Thanks again for a look back and a Jack.

I believe it was. I think I have another photo of it up close.
