SR From #14 yesterday- low lighting courtesy of the clocks having changed. (and being down about 50min) Date: 11/06/18 15:03 Re: Serrano Cantilever on Cuesta Author: Ritzville NICE shot just the same!

The warmness of the light, the definiton in the green signal, and the train working its way up the golden hills is awesome. Sneakin' peeks out of the vestiblue has its perks!

The light was wonderful, but I'm a little dissapointed with the focus- it landed about 50ft or so short of the intended target (the signal itself). I wish I had a do-over! It took me a while to learn that the hard way. These days, I 'lock down' my DSLR to use only the center focus point. I'll crop and 'reframe' the picture during post processing as desired. Date: 11/06/18 21:00 Re: Serrano Cantilever on Cuesta Author: BoilingMan Agreed. I was dealing with two “problems”- bouncing around on a moving deck (train) and I’d had cataract surgery less than 48hrs before, so MY focus wasn’t working all that great either!
SR Date: 11/06/18 23:23 Re: Serrano Cantilever on Cuesta Author: coach I've always liked how SP set up their signals at sidings with the main signal being on a high mast, and the siding signal being on a low mast, with a searchlight signal WITHOUT the target backing plate. It made you visually understand the situation better, with the high signal being the main signal, and the lower being the siding. Simple. Effective. Visually intuitive.
Nowadays, UP has everything looking the same. Siding? Main? All looks the same. |
