Western Railroad Discussion > Granite Bay California any RR related sights????Date: 11/07/18 03:28 Granite Bay California any RR related sights???? Author: brc600 What sort of community is this? Any abandoned RR's? Thanks for all answers for Fresno and Sacramento.
Date: 11/07/18 05:14 Re: Granite Bay California any RR related sights???? Author: jeffgeldner Assuming you are referring to the community on Folsom Lake, to the south there is the Folsom Valley Railway (folsomvalleyrailway.com) with live steam next to the Folsom Zoo. The Cricket once operated on the Redwood Valley Railroad until they broadened their gauge. The gauge is 12 inches at the Folsom Valley Railway.
Near the Gold Line Light Rail line of RT Metro which goes to Sacramento is the Folsom Railroad Museum open weekends (fedshra.org). To the west you will find UP's ex-SP main line featuring an Amtrak Capitol Corridor train as far as Auburn and the California Zephyr plus UP freights. There are more sights in Sacramento to the west and to the east along the UP such as the historic depot museum in Colfax. Author: BoilingMan Granite Bay itself is an affluent “gated” residential neighborhood and not on the radar of anyone looking fo RR related points of interest. I guess the original line from Folsom to Rocklin passed through this area, but you’d be hard pressed to find any trace of it outside of the two endpoints.

It is very beautiful and affluent area as mentioned. Here is some info on how to look for signs of the looooooooooong gone Sacramento, Placer and Nevada Railroad. https://insuremekevin.com/mapping-the-folsom-and-granite-bay-historic-railroad/ Date: 11/07/18 10:27 Re: Granite Bay California any RR related sights???? I will definitely give this some attention this Winter, maybe an addition to my Necrophoamin series?! However, it remains that if one were a casual visitor to our area and seeking RR attractions, there is much lower hanging fruit. Thank you, again, for this info. Yes. Here in California we call that “par”. SR Posted from iPhone Date: 11/07/18 18:51 Re: Granite Bay California any RR related sights???? Author: cchan006 BoilingMan Wrote:

Met a few out-of-towners baited by Zillow, and I prevented them from being scammed. Date: 11/07/18 19:39 Re: Granite Bay California any RR related sights???? Author: portlander CPRR Wrote:

I often ride my bike through Lew Howard Park in Folsom to keep off of the streets for a short amount of time. One day it finally occured to me that I was likely riding on an old RR right of way. So I did a little digging. |
