3 Days On The Kyle Railroad
Author: Ohiorailfan

Last Saturday I left Ohio with my sights on the Kyle Railroad. My attack plan was to start at Courtland and just work west all the way to Goodland and eventually Limon. On Sunday the 4th I started at Courtland in the morning where I found a train tied down with 3 Utah MK50-3's and a CORP SD40T-2. I then got towards Agra where I found an eastbound coming with 3 Tunnel motors the first 2 being Kyle SD45T-2's in GW orange. I ended up chasing them all the way to Courtland. I then spent the night in Phillipsburg and woke the up the next day in hopes of seeing the Utahs go west. I stopped by the yard and didn't find them so I headed west to Norton, they weren't there either. So I headed back east towards Phillipsburg and as I got just out of town I saw a train moving. I figured it was the Utah engines, but to my complete surprise it was a KYLE painted SW1500 working the grain elevator. I then headed further east knowing the Utah's were still east of me. I eventually found them near Smith Center and chased them all the way back to Phillipsburg(after all I did come over 800 miles to shoot the Utah units). Once they got into Phillipsburg they would spend the rest of the evening switching so I would head to Goodland and spend the night. I woke on Tuesday and checked out their yard and to my surpirse a train was in town working with an Ex BN SD40-2, Kyle GP38-2, and a Utah MK50-3. They would switch for a few hours, so I went and had lunch. When I came back a couple hours later they were already out of town. I would catch up to them about 5 miles east of Burlington, Colorado and chase them into town where they switched until it got dark. While they were in town I headed over to Limon to see if any power was lying around and luck would have it as two of Kyle's Ex SP SD45T-2's were in town. This railroad is long and slow thus making it tricky to find stuff moving. I came out with a goal of seeing as much as I could and I couldn't have asked for much more. Enjoy!!!
