At least we know where most of the SD45-2s are. Thank you for sharing the photos.

Nice coverage from my hometown for the first 21 years of my life. Our favorite Mexican restaurant was a couple of blocks northeast of that brick building next to the Branner St. bridge.

Great pics! I also didn’t realize how many of the SD45-2s/Bs were still kicking around. Good to see.

I wonder how much work Topeka actually does since it seems like BNSF sends most of it's major work out to contract shops?

There's a rotory snowplow in the 7th picture!  Does it ever get any use?
My ex-wifes grandparents lived in the neighborhood in the background of the 5th picture.  When I visited they were sandblasting boxcars across the tracks from the house (100 yards away).  It was afun place to visit.

I have no idea when it was last used. Maybe Evan can fill in that blank. But here's a shot from the one & only time I ever saw it in use:

https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,3613417,3613417#msg-3613417

It was also the one & only time I was ever out shooting with the late Mr William A. Gibson Sr, affectionately known as "WAG Sr". This was in January of 1979, and we lost Bill in March of 1983...

added: That is indeed the Santa Fe rotary snow. Upkpfan is probably having trouble with the sharp telephoto angle. When I returned home to Kansas in 2010 the plow was rusting away in the very north corner of the Topeka Shops grounds. If you could reach over a fence it was shootable sitting up by the intersection of NE River Rd & NE Chandler Sts. It was moved from that spot and has been sitting in the main lot just E of the Branner St overpass for some time now. I've heard it is slated to be scrapped...

Nice photos and catches.  I believe the 3600 was the unit that was painted Great Northern a few months back, but BNSF ordered it to be repainted for some reason.   Paint looks fresh.

Great group of photos. I wonder if all these units are still active on the BNSF roster?

The rotary needs to be saved . It's a one-off build proving Santa Fes capacity to build anything it wanted ! Maybe displayed with the other Santa Fe rolling stock at Topeka's
UP depot ? Or Oklahoma's RR museum ?

Stick on the short piece of track next to my former employer's Topeka office, be a perfect fit!

Any idea what the locomotive is indicated by the arrow? It's an odd profile.
