To & Fro at twilight

After a productive day of chasing the fall color change down on my old Santa Fe main line I was rewarded with this colorful little sequence just west of the Merrick crossovers at Emporia, KS.

1. BNSF 4185 is gliding smoothly through the 50 MPH crossover from main #2 to main #3 while passing below the Kansas Turnpike/I-35 overpass.

2. & 3. The 4185 approaches my vantage point at the Rd F crossing @ 300mm & 82mm respectively. The train dispatcher has an eastbound movement lined up on main #1

4. At 185mm the ‘away’ shot accentuates the slight S-curve west of Rd F.

5. & 6. Less than 2 minutes separate the “to & fro” scene. 4185’s FRED disappears and an eastbound pokes its tri-headlights around the corner.

7. & 8. BNSF 6910 wastes no time rushing by my spot. The sunset evokes fond memories of my years riding over these very rails (1978 ~ 1987).

Very nice set, light and locations,  the way you always chase down the trains just at that time is amazing.

(chuckling) Well..... there just might be a wee bit of Murphy's Railfan Law going on here. "Train count goes up when the sun goes down". Or so it always seems, even on a main line that's busy 24/7... ;^)
Thanks for the kind words!

That was nice of the 4185 engineer to keep the hammer down to clear your field for the eastbound on main 1. Nice sequence Lance. And congratulations on another, well-earned IOTD!
