Dont think they are getting a new operator as they will be stored on rented track.

Any chance that G&W will take it over?

Curious what route they used to get to Prineville.
I would think onto the OE in Eugene and then through Portland and Vancovuver to the OT. Dry altitude storage compared to wet salty storage?

TCnR,

The 6 Coos bay rail link units went via K. Falls..   I've seen photos on facebook of they sitting in BNSF's Klamath Falls yard..

So are the blue units only moving for seasonal arid storage or some kind of  actual maintenance("repair")?
Moving on own power or d.i.t.?

My understanding is that the six blue units are out of work and needed to find a new home due to the Port taking over operations. Recent posts on TO showed the four replacement leased units from Western Rail; a GMD1; a GP20; a SW1500 and a MP-15. Whether the Port will eventually seek a new operator and/or different power remains to be seen but for now I understand they're holding their own with large trains.

Wow, doesn't sound like a very solid locomotive roster on a fairly rugged line with (hopefully) substantial sized trains...

Curious, are the "blue" locomotives in poor mechanical shape?  Too bad the port couldn't pull a deal to get them overhauled.

Western Rail (WRIX) is working on 4 to 6 GP38-2 or -3s for the port.  When those are done and delivered the GMD1 and GP20 will go back to WRIX.  The two switchers are to remain and become property of the port along with the 38s.  As for the blue units, the owner is taking them elsewhere.  Apparently the 6 units in the pic above will be stored in Prineville.  A seventh blue unit headed out for new territory previouly.  One blue is left on the property.  Stuck due to the bridge work needed to re-open that portion of the line it is on.

I know not everyone is into Facebook, but there is a Coos Bay Rail Line group on that site that has quite a few photos now of the new power in service.

Martin, thanks for posting your excellent photo and starting a very interesting thread.
I haven't driven by Cascan in a long time so guess I should do so occasionally now.
Time to drop by the COP in Prineville soon too.
