Judging by this photo, I would say he did. In fact, the newspaper called both 41 and 43 "electric train enthuasiasts." I snapped this picture of a display at the George W. I wonder if the photographer who took that photo was around long enough to realize his photo was of two future US Presidents.

He, Barbara, other family and diginitaries including John Major made a trip up the Valley from Sacramento aboard a special UP train. The train laid over in Dunsmuir and went north the next day. Made a stop at Mossbrea Falls where a temporary platform had been constructed. A gracious pleasant man, made it a point to meet the crew.
