Amtrak "River Runner" turn around at the Santa Fe Junction Drone
Author: docgrommesh

When the Amtrak "River Runner" comes into KC from St. Louis it is facing west. This is a video on how they get the train facing back east again. There is a wye just west of Union Station at the Santa Fe Junction by going through a number of switches. After the maneuver, it is ready to go back to Union Station where it will be loaded with passengers and taken on another trip to St. Louis.

It was nice to see a BNSF and UP over and under while shooting the video also!
 Enjoy the View!

Very nice video, thanks for posting.  I see there are a couple of new buildings in the area.  At least I don't remember
them being there before.  However, I seldom get to this area.

It's interesting that they are wying the entire train.  When I first went to the Santa Fe Junction area, they only
wyed the locomotive.  Valmont has posted a shot of this, and I also have shots.  In that era, they used the former
UP line, middle level of the current set up, and back the train through State Line to the former Frisco/Katy joint
track, then back to KCUS.  Today, with the entire train, they're using the former Santa Fe/Frisco route.  I'm guessing
this must be easier for the KCT dispatchers who control the junction.

Thanks for the complement!  It is always fun to make these videos and give people some different perspectives.
Not sure why they changed the way they turn it around, but I am sure it is easier for them.  Maybe less time consuming??
I have heard that they have put a couple extra cars on the back for PTC.  I don't know if that would make any difference or not.
