KLWX 419/CEMEX
Author: ns2557

Earlier today I happened upon KLWX 419. Painted in CEMEX Colors. Unit was on a wb BNSF train in Marionville Missouri. Train was led by BNSF 5607. As I stated earlier, I did get some shots of this unit in transit. So, here ya go....

Shot 1. KLWX 419-CEMEX  Believe that Knoxville is calling this an SE32C Model. Some minor differences between this unit here and the shots that KLWX has on their web page. Most notably along the top edge of the long hood, fore of the radiator section.

Shot 2. Shows the "slanted" forward windshield. Guess they borrowed this from NS, as they use it on their SD60E rebuilds. Admiral Cab I believe is what they refer to it as.

Shot 3. Radiator section on KLWX 419. If ya look, one can see the area that I referred to on the top edge of long hood, fore of the radiator. Some cooling tubes (I think) can be seen in the forward section of radiator.

Nice to see something other than Wide Noses being built. Hopefully KLW can put out a quality product. Have not heard to much on how they are doing since coming on the scene.

Not 100 % sure which CEMEX Plant this one is headed for, but from my earlier post first informing all, one reply says the CEMEX Plant at Victorville Calif.

Other units in consist were BNSF 4222, BNSF 7224.  Thanks all for looking.  Take care. Ben

The number does seem inline with how Victorville has been numbering their units since SWPC days.  Might actually say SWPC under the temporary marks.

the regular nose may help with switching

That small fuel tank shouldn't be much of a problem on the old Mojave Northern. Not exactly a long distance run!

Since it's going to the "greater" LA area can we assume TierIV?

I thought those grey stripes were strips of duct tape... Bad color combo/scheme IMHO...

I believe the KLW units meet TierIV by use of DEF treatment. In the photo showing the radiator section it looks like the rear end of the fuel tank actually incorporates a smaller tank for the treatment fluid.

If ya feel up to it, go to the KLW website and look at the specs for the SE32C. Says its now available as a Tier 4 compliant. Orig built to Tier 3 w/o the use of an after treatment. 16V 3200 HP at 1800 rpm. Uses an AR10 generator if I read the site correctly. Lots of good info on this and some of their other offerings. Ben

S ince it's up on the high desert wasn't sure if they'd make them buy/rent/lease a Tier IV unit but the
split tank would see, to scream DEF!!

I know Knoxville likes MTU under the hood...

It looks like Frankenstein built it, which seems to be typical of most new locomotives these days.

Since it hasn't been spelled out, KLW is Knoxville Locomotive Works:

https://www.goklw.com/se32c

One interesting feature of the KLW units is that they retain the EMD style AR10 alternator and use a gearbox to reduce the high RPM from the MTU engine to approximate that of the medium speed 645 it replaces.

Definatly DEF due to the Blue DEF cap. I'm curious on how much DEF fluid that the engine would go through in a week. On a OTR Truck a normal week (saying a 2,500 mile week) would go through 9-15 gallons (for Class 8 trucks it averages to for every 50 gallons of diesel it uses 1 gallon of DEF) depending on idleing and load on the engine.

Notice the cab front center windows are raked at an angle.
Perhaps for glare reduction.
