Cement loads leaving Buda this morning
Author: PALuvR

I had an interesting morning on the UP Austin Sub in Buda, TX. After having breakfast, I drove trackside and was surprised to find a NB loaded cement train parked in Buda Pass. Previous loaded trains out of Texas Lehigh in Buda that I had seen left directly out of the plant. Buda Pass is a mile or so north of the plant.

1. Power for the loads was a pair of SD70Ms.
2. A northbounder with UP 8051, 6835 and an FXE unit trailing came through
3. More fresh paint

Crew van brought the conductor up to take off the derail and line the switch.

4. Lining the switch
5-6. Easing up and passing me

The conductor reset the derail and lined the switch back for the main. The train had to make a reverse move to clear the Main St. crossing (and pick up the conductor). He still had to walk a bit because the train had to stop short of the crossing seen in the distance in #3. Finally, with a full crew on board, the loads departed NB.

I appreciate y'all taking a look. Thanks

Mike

7. Relining the switch
8. Reverse SB move to clear a blocked crossing
9. Ready to head out
