Date: 01/09/19 06:05 Re: Can you ID this tunnel ? Author: Railbaron I have absolutely no idea "where" but this looks like it might be a narrow gauge tunnel; based on those people walking makes it appear the tunnel isn't very high, lower than a standard gauge tunnel.

Date: 01/09/19 08:24 Re: Can you ID this tunnel ? Author: 2ebright I am struck by the almost complete lack of soot in the tunnel. I think I have seen pictures of an abandoned RR tunnel in a reservoir in northern California that is usually submerged but becomes visible when the water level drops a lot. Maybe being submerged soaks all of the soot off. Sorry I dont know the exact location of the tunnel.

Date: 01/09/19 11:55 Re: Can you ID this tunnel ? Author: Railpax71 No trains actually ran through these tunnels though they were built to allow creeks to drain under the massive fills that the Ocean Shore Railroad required near Davenport, California.

Spreckels wanted the height so a brakeman could stand on top of the car and not hit the top of the tunnel.
Nudge Date: 01/09/19 21:19 Re: Can you ID this tunnel ? Author: Railpax71 The Ocean Shore drainage tunnels exist to this day and you can walk through them. They were extended with some concrete when highway 1 was widened.
