Mess up on donner overnight
Author: pdt

Had the radio feed from DS74 on all night....  Car broke a knuckle or something west of Truckee....sounded like in 1st tunnel west of truckee.  Sounds like they speent a good 5 hours getting the train down to truckee in pieces.  Flanger power helping with part of the train.  I-80 closed so relief crews not able to get to traims. (no one knows why they wouldnt send crews from sparks)  At least 1 train dead on the hill right now.  Snow not bad in truckee, but they say the hill is really bad. Sounds like spreader has been out, and snow cats digging thru to stopped trains...

That would be Andover. The train would be making a 90 degree turn (+-) from North to West in the heart of the W/B grade.

The fun really begins this afternoon. They are expecting 2-4 feet above 5500 feet by midday Thursday. Hope they have things sorted out by then. The Z trains and Amtraks might be a little late. ;-)

Why no crew from Sparks, no 77 pool crews rested, and Sparks based crews are not qualified.

"PSR" will have everything running absolutely perfectly over the mountain, no matter the weather conditions!  Sorry, couldn't resist; but this is a good illustration as to why real Precision Scheduled Railroading is a huge mis-nomer and not even realistically possible.  Of course, "PSR's" real purpose - slashing costs, capital, employees, assets, customers, etc will proceed, no matter what the weather brings, and the outcome will probably be equally dark and dreary as a common winter day.
