Western Railroad Discussion > How to railfan Lucin Cutoff?Date: 01/19/19 09:39 How to railfan Lucin Cutoff? Author: 2839Canadian What is the best way to get to the east shore of the Great Salt Lake where the popular overlook is?
Is there a best time of the day to go there? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance Date: 01/19/19 10:22 Re: How to railfan Lucin Cutoff? Author: WAF Assuming you mean Promontory Point, not Lakeside. Both ends have hillside overlooks

Date: 01/20/19 19:57 Re: How to railfan Lucin Cutoff? Author: TCnR It's a really long drive through some very unspectacular terrain. When you get to the end of the road there are some choices of angles but the key is to have a train come by. Not to mention the light's on the wrong side, maybe bring along some pretty clouds or reflections.
There has been discussion and photos of the location on TO in the distant past, there's also some discussion about access to some points west of the lake. The classic SP style photos require a lot more driving onto the fill which would not be a good thing to do. Perhaps tie the two ends with a visit to Promontary Summit but watch out for the huge crowds during the anniversary in the summer. Date: 01/21/19 08:01 Re: How to railfan Lucin Cutoff?
