Final NTSB Report on 2016 Texas Panhandle Collision?
Author: MSE

Has the NTSB issued its final report on the collision of the two BNSF Q Trains in the Texas Panhandle on June 28, 2016? I can only find the preliminary report ( https://www.ntsb.gov/investigations/AccidentReports/Pages/dca16fr008-preliminary.aspx ). Generally, it takes about a year and was wondering if I was looking in the wrong places for the final.

I poked around the NTSB site for a while and it appears they have not released the final report yet.  The media was wondering about as far back as June!  http://www.newschannel10.com/story/38532838/no-official-word-on-cause-of-panhandle-train-crash-2-years-later/

Thank you for looking.

Having had quite a bit of experience with the NTSB, it is quite unusual for an investigation to be taking this long (2.5 years). The goal is to generally have the final report finished one year after the date of the accident.

If the rumors I hear about this incident are true, I can understand why it has not been made public yet. I can't say any more than that though.

I’m sure we’ll never know what really happened, just like Wyoming.

One of the purposes of the NTSB is to handle unusual accidents so we learn from them and they are never repeated. It is disappointing if anything other than a quest for the facts is delaying the report.

Please clarify which accident.  I too have been wondering about the welded rail and loco crash.  HOWEVER, some time back there was a horriic crash in the Panhandle.  Headon. EB with WB, one split the switch running against RED.  The one going into the hole, had not had time to get there. Of that train the conductor jumped.  There was a very thorough and surprsing outcome to the NTSB investigation.  I assume this is NOT the one that you are inquiring of.  Is Hertzog/BNSF the one you seek?  Mike. endmrw0130191448

My understanding is that the quest for conclusive facts surrounding this incident has proven difficult and sensitive and is the reason it has been delayed.

A buddy that works down there says there is something funny about the accident, everyone is very tight lipped about it. On the other hand us rails know how Railroad rumors work.

I’ve met some interesting people that each have very interesting info regarding panhandle, but your right no is talking or if they are they aren’t saying much.
