The Good, the Bad and the Ugly on the NWP.
Author: weather

The motive power on NWP has gone through an assortment of engines and colors.  Gone are blue and yellow ex-ATSF geep #1322 to the Santa Maria Valley and NS  Black high nosed GP-38 #5076 now on the NVWT..  Still on the property is the ex GN GP-9 #1922.  The main power is the red RJ Corman Genset #2009 and the imaculate ex-SP Scarlet and Gray (MAC) SW-1500 , #1501. NWP has been short on power so a "used" engine bought at acution showed up yesterday at Schellville. Ex-UP genset 2611 will provide much needed horsepower to move around the stored cars in the Yard .  Our B&B Superviosr today caled it a "pig sucking a lemon." It will probably be limited to the Brazos branch until the PTC can be installed. Here is the #5076 on the Wine Train. Here are file images of the #1501 and the PTC equpped #2009.

The R.J. Cormam engine is used exclusively on the Petaluma Hauler.  Text and photos by Mike Pechner

  • 2009 is equipped with SMART's E-ATC (PTC compliant) technology, and isn't used exclusively on the "Petaluma hauler" as 1501 is and has been assigned to that road job for the last 3.5 weeks.
  • 1501 is an MP15DC and does not have E-ATC.
  • 2611 isn't equipped with an alerter and is therefor limited to 25MPH, E-ATC will be installed when SMART requires it to be used.
  • 1922 is former NP.

Appreciate the update and photos. Is the ex- NS #5076 now owned by the Napa Valley Wine Train or just leased?

5076 is owned by Summit Signal inc, a Signal maintainer and all around Jack-of-all-trades company. They leased it to the NVR.
