Anyone have idea what the routing would be from the CIH combine manufacturing plant at Grand Island to Chicago would be?

Wouldn't it be the cal zephyr?

No. Because Grand Island isn't on the California Zephyr route and Amtrak doesn't handle farm machinery.

Just from memory, there are two railroads through Grand island: 1) Union Pacific Overland Route main line, and 2) CB&Q now BNSF.

I-80 would be the preferred route. It is extremely rare that Case combines move by rail from Grand Island. If they do its in groups for export.
 

Our old GI office was nearly across the street and there were rail moves, certainly not as common as
triucked but they did occur.

I saw an entire train of yellow and red case combines loaded on flat cars ready to go last year one of the times I was in GI

Theres currently a train with 78 combines headed to I imagine Baltimore for export. Been catching posts on Twitter with it. Imagine it's somewhere in Ohio right now. Has 1 UP Gevo for power, 5 covered hoppers, then all flats

I saw the combine train on the Grand Island webcam just last week. 

Thanks for the responses. It’s highly unlikely a train would have passed through Perry Kansas heading for export.

Ive seen these unit combine trains from time to time. They run on the Overland mainline from Grand Island to Chicago UP and ex CNW
