A Few Trains in Southeast Iowa from the Past Few Days
Author: Agent

I've caught a few different train in southeast Iowa the last few days.

1) On Wednesday, I caught a westbound BNSF container train in Agency running left-handed.  Dash 9 BNSF 5253 was leading.  I don't see a lot of intermodals on the Ottumwa Sub.

2) ES44C4 BNSF 7034 was the second unit.

3) CMA CGM looked like the most common container company.

4) Everything was double-stacked except the last car on the train.

Right after this train went by, I got a tip on a train on the Canadian Pacific in Ottumwa that was about to get a new crew.

5) Before I got to Ottumwa, I heard another southbound train get a warrant to leave first.  This was the CP 374 with the AC4400CW UP 7137 leading.

6) The trailing unit was SD70ACe BNSF 9122.

7) Going-away shot of the two lead units.  Note the new retaining walls on the far side of the tracks.  CP recently extended another track from the yard to here.

8) Another ACe, UP 8510, was the DPU.

9) About forty minutes after 374 left, the train on the far track got the go ahead to leave the yard.

10-11) NS 8104, the Lehigh Valley heritage unit, leads the CP 674 southbound toward Kansas City.

12) The other unit on this loaded sand train was the Dash 9 NS 9537.

Thanks to another tip, I caught an eastbound BNSF mixed freight at Agency that evening.

13) ES44C4 BNSF 7957 was the first of four engines.

14) The second unit was BNSF 624, a patched Santa Fe warbonnet Dash 9.

15) ES44AH CSXT 962 was third out.

16) B40-8W BNSF 520 was the last engine.  Looks like it was recently repainted.

17-18) Not long after it left, a westbound coal train came by pulled by an ES44AC, an ACe, and a MAC.

On Thursday, I caught an eastbound train in Agency that I'm not sure what it would be carrying.  It was mostly made of old Santa Fe and Burlington Northern covered hoppers.

19) ET44AC NS 3607 leading.

20) ES44AH CSXT 992.

21) ATSF 178609.

22) A few of the old BN hoppers.

23) ES44C4 BNSF 8261 was on the end of the train.  Looks like it's a little bit toasted.

24) In contrast to the toasted part, the handrails on the front look new.
