Western Railroad Discussion > Seventy-eight minutes at SewardDate: 02/17/19 07:53 Seventy-eight minutes at Seward Author: santafe199 Here’s a thread I put on the back burner a few years ago. And then I guess the pilot light sorta went out! I found it again while doing some file maintenance. Four years ago I visited friend & fellow TO member Tom Jurgens up there in Husker Nation territory. We had along a third local fan, Mr Richard Schmelling to make us a trio. We had loosely decided to head for the Seward, NE area. We got to town and right off the bat had ourselves quite an interlude. With Tom driving we spotted the train in image #1. There was no way to park on the highway overpass so Tom dropped us both off, drove down to ground level and circled back just below us. Richard & I got our shots, then the 2 of us old geezers tried to remember how scale down a steep embankment without an embarrassing stumble, drop & roll coming into play…

Larry Date: 02/17/19 13:42 Re: Seventy-eight minutes at Seward Author: King_Coal Interesting location. There's a number of highway overpasses that would work better with a photo-park at one end. And maybe some speed bumps. Wonder what the warning sign would look like for oncoming motorists?

Although I generally despise the term, I think a dayglo green sign displaying a stick-person toting a camera. "DANGER: FOAM AHEAD" ... < time-out to shoot a train > ... might do the trick... ;^) Posted from Android (out on the GSR) (edited later): Sorry I didn't finish the sentence, but the train showed up. So I had to drop the cell & grab the camera. And it seems I've lost a step or two... Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/17/19 18:04 by santafe199. Date: 02/17/19 19:15 Re: Seventy-eight minutes at Seward Author: twjurgens The climb is out of the Big Blue River valley to what is some nearly flat running to Aurora, NE. Bet they're glad that they don't have to drag coal loads up that grade.
