Daylight red & orange on a grey Winter day
Author: Midnight_Goat

Yesterday morning while on one of my off days I caught Union Pacific's Southern Pacific heritage unit (UP 1996) on the point of a monster 190 car westbound manifest coming into Cheyenne, WY. Snow had been lightly falling for much of the morning but despite the gloomy weather I never pass up a chance to see my favorite of UP's heritage painted SD70ACes.

1) Carefully coming off Archer Hill the westbound 'HK' is just east of the OS at Barnett, WY on the east side of Cheyenne.

2) A splash of Daylight red and orange adding some color to an otherwise dreary day.

Thanks for looking,
Ryan

Even Carol Voss, longtime critic of the SP heritage scheme, would have to agree just a little bit, this is a striking paint job.

Nice pair of images Ryan. That leader sure brightened up that somber scene.

Nice shots Ryan, send the 1996 out our way when you can!

Since SP predecessor CP wanted to cross Wy before UP did, maybe these prove they succeeded?

Nice shot, Ryan!

What line is this.  I thought UP had double track around Cheyenne.  Is this a different line than the east-west line going through Cheyenne?

Thanks.

Look again.  You can see the second track behind the head end in the first pic.
