Update on locomotive M & R at OERM (SCRM) 3/10/19
Author: TomPlatten

With no rain this past Saturday we were able to make progress on a number of tasks designed to keep the fleet running
Air Force 7441--our ancient siderodded GE 45 tonner had a damaged keyway for its drive pulley used to drive the radiator fan. We were able to find a replacement pulley and remounted the it on the drive shaft from the fuel pump. We apparently dodged a bullet as single disk fuel pumps are long sense obsolete. At any rate the #1 prime mover is now functional again! I have included a photo of Frank squeezing into the available space to reattach the drive pulley! Nice work Frank
We began clean up work on the recently delivered replacement wheelset for the SP 3100. I immediately removed the old wiring to prepare to clean up the  wheelset before the contractor arrives to install it in the number two position of the lead truck. Carl then mounted the wheelset on his wheel rotator used to facilitate the cleaning process.
Carl worked on the expansion tank for the ex-Army Alco 1956. He thoroughly  cleaned the interior, patched the  holes, added a drain pipe for future maintenance, and prepared the tank to go out to have Rhino Lining being installed to insure it doesnt leak!
Taka, our newest helper double checked all of the injectors which had been installed in the Army Alco #1975. He made sure they were properly seated and then started locomotive. All of the cylinders fired this time except #5. Our next step is to check the compression for that cylinder and also check the fuel pump timing. We are determined to get that engine running smoothly.
Frank and Carl added sufficient fuel into the SP #1006 to see fuel in the lower sight glasses. Noting a small leak in a previously repaired area, we will apply some JB Weld. We later tested the Fuel Pump and found it was not working properly.
Then Frank added cooling water which included water treatment until it appeared in the sight glass up on the expansion tank. All seemed well!
