Special Paint and Special Symbols on the UP . . .
Author: SCKP187

Yesterday was pretty attractive on the UP Cherokee and Wagoner Subs with a few unusual scenes.  This part of the system appears to have become a haven for SD70Ms also.

1.     UP 2002 leading MMKFW (Mankato MN?) with Mazie OK in the background

2.     UP 2002-4256-8622-4334-3864 2 miles south of Mazie at Hall Ranch Road as it is slowing to approach the interlocking plant in Wagoner as the DS mentioned he was going to run a northbound Special across in front of them (cool, maybe there is some passenger equipment out on the road)

So oklachaser and I turned and headed north towards Coffeyville KS in hopes of intercepting the Special only to find 3 different bridge re-build projects in the works that would createtraffic delays, but there were some trains getting ready to leave Coffeyville for KC

3.     UP 3798-4985-7187-5727 MHOKC blasts through Neodasha KS after getting word from the DS their slow orders have met tonnage and been voided.  As others on TO have mentioned, the car makeup has recently changed to include a wide assortment of lading not usually associated with the standard symbol.

4.     UP 7267-4424 was just a few minutes behind with a short sand train, shown at the north end of Altoona KS.

5.     Heading back south to Coffeyville after the bridge crews had given up their Track and Time, I found the special was a blade train with UP 8973-BNSF 4065-776----nice colorful elephant-style consist.  Not sure, but probably SBTAVW special-beaumont tx-avon ia-wind.

Thanks for an interesting series Brian. Nice catch of UP 2002 and the colorful power on the blade train. Looks like you had a good day!

Nice group of photos! I do like that Olympic scheme. Glad it's lasted so long. Thanks for sharing.

No doubt. I guess I should have said paint "scheme", or paint "design", or paint "theme".

Or: ... after all these years "since the Olympics"...
