Locomotives stored
Author: dougd

Must be a line of 30+ engines at Elkol  (Kemmerrer)  Wyo.  Too far from the road to read numbers.
Are there line-ups like these all over the UP expanse?

There's like about 1400 SD70M's so I doubt that ALL of them will go into storage. But several hundred is not out of the question.
Until the "Good Idea Fairy" makes another visit to Omaha and they start doing something else entirely...

There must be at least 20 to 30 locomotives stored in Salt Lake's North Yard. There are 2 tier 4 SD70ACE-T4s and at least 4 tier 4 GEs along with a number of tier 3 GEs plus a number of older SD70s.

Is 'LUGO' a BNSF term or is it used by other railroads?   It amounts to the same though, "Laid Up, Good Order" - but being "laid up" may not mean they are like ready to go instantly.

Actually ATSF terminology that BNSF adopted after the merger.

UP uses stored serviceable and stored unserviceable. LUGO and it's siblings as already mentioned are BNSF, nee-ATSF, terms.
