UP/BNSF vs Platte River
Author: papio

Here are some shots of the UP (Falls City Sub) and the BNSF (Omaha Sub) just north of Oreapolis where they cross the Platte River. BNSF tracks in foreeground, UP behind. Sorry that they don't show the detail I hoped they would. Both lines have sustained significant damage with spans in the water .

With the UP up river from the BNSF bridge, I would imagin that the UP will have a couple of spans knocked loose also. KCRW287 Jim Will

Did a little editing, hopefully this gives a better view of the damage.

There's a highway down there somewhere, interesting shots, be interested to find out from where the shots were taken.

These shots were taken from  HWY 75.

If that rail bridge hasn’t taken all the floating debris, I imagine the Hwy75 bridge would’ve been taken out too.

I hope it recedes soon. I’m out there next week.

HWY 75 bridges are fine, seeing lots of extra traffic as I-29 is closed Council Bluffs IA to St Joseph MO.

OK, so I'm confused been a couple years since I lived back there. 75 used to be at rail level through Orepolis, in fact right next to
the BNSF signal boxes. Did they finally complete the new four lane to Plattesmouth?

The four lane is pretty close to being completed aside from some finishing of shoulders, striping, etc. It's four lane as far as the Eagles/Pamida area in Plattsmouth. It is still at rail level where you mentioned, in fact it was closed during the early stages of the flooding. The old Merrit Beach area was converted into an RV Park last year. Many of the RVs (and there are some $$$ ones) that were left there over winter are now under water or pushed off their pads into the outer areas of the park, a real mess.
