Questions About a Canadian
Author: WichitaJct

I have seen these BC rail units on both the BNSF and UP. I assume they must be CN property now. That's the only way I can explain their trips through the middle of the United States. They look like SD60s from the cab forward. but  yikes, what's that behind the cab?

That's a General Electric C40-8M.

They always look like they don't fit together quite right. Wow, 25+ years old too!

They called it the "Draper Taper".  It eliminates the most common problem with carbody type locomotives:  The inability to look back at your train to inspect it enroute, or the inability of the engineer to look back for signals during switching.   BSB

There are a few BC Rail units painted in CN paint. There will be  "BCOL" initials and loco number on the cab. Image of CN repainted BCOL 4615, Nov 10, 2008 at Prince George, BC.
