Full Moon Risin'
Author: funnelfan

Finally got out for a little railfanning late yesterday afternoon. I setup for this westbound grain train coming down the hill into Sprague, WA when I noticed the full moon quickly rising high into the sky. Anyone who has tried to setup for a shot of the moon rising near the horizon soon learns just how fast the moon really moves. In fact a time lapse of the moon is very hard as anything more than just a few seconds will cause the moon to blur.

Well done.  Can be very frustating trying to time the moon rise and a train before it gets too high.  You got a fine location.

No train but SpaceShipTwo on its way to land at the Mojave Air & Space Port.
Took me several flights to get the moon in the right location!

Nice one, Ted. That looks like an IOTD on my cell! Working a shot and getting rewarded is nice, but sometimes a little bit of right place ~ right time karma can make all the difference in this hobby...

Thanks! It's what we do here, less than  a mile from where the 20 Mule Teams were housed and with an active rail connection to the Jawbone Branch!!

Fantastic. I tried pictures of the setting moon this morning (no trains) and it was hard to get the lighting right before the sun came up. And it moved really fast as you mentioned. So congratulations on such a fine photo! Hopefully I can get mine to turn out like that someday.
