Western Railroad Discussion > A Saturday Switcher . . .Date: 05/11/19 07:14 A Saturday Switcher . . . Author: 3rdswitch . . . In OCT '07, Big Horn Divide and Wyomings only SW1500 was returning to Shoshoni about to cross US Hwy 20-26 after performing interchage with BNSF at Bonneville. At the time there was some kind of car repair facility there, don't know if they are still around? The road also has a GP rebuild which was used to spot, gather and assemble BNSF sulpher train that runs to Galveston.

Date: 05/11/19 07:18 Re: A Saturday Switcher . . . Author: 3rdswitch NOT SURE, but, I THINK the old CNW main paralelled the HWY east and this was a connection to the old CBQ line at Bonneville?

CM80.46 Date: 05/11/19 08:44 Re: A Saturday Switcher . . . Author: 2ebright Here are a couple of shots that I took of the Riverton Turn on May 11, 1988; 31 years ago. They are at Shobon, Wyoming a few miles north of the small town of Shoshoni. Shobon in just a switch in the "middle of nowhere" where the C&NW returns to its own, Cowboy Line, rails after coming west 100 miles from Casper on BN rails. At that time the C&NW ran from Shobon thru Shoshoni to Riverton. These shots were scanned from color prints.

Author: 3rdswitch What a great catch of the CNW near the end of the system! Thanks for adding. So, it appears the shot of BDW IS on former CNW main since Shobon is east of here? I wonder where the CNW got on the former CBQ as ex CNW right of way is very evident many miles west of Casper adjacent Hwy?
JB Date: 05/11/19 10:50 Re: A Saturday Switcher . . . Author: Milwaukee That's a former Minneapolis & St. Louis unit up front. Great photos as that's definitely not the geography you normally think of when thinking of those C&NW GP's.
Date: 05/11/19 11:14 Re: A Saturday Switcher . . . Author: GRNDMND The BDW uses BNSF Caper Sub trackage between Shobon and Lysite a few miles east. Possible customer there or on Lost Cabin line from Lysite? The car repair shop at Shoshoni is still there, operated by Wasatch RR Contractors of Cheyenne. The line from Shobon through Shosoni to the end of track at mp 4.1 is former CNW to Riverton and Lander. As far back as 1972, CNW used BN tracks between Shobon and Illco, about halfway between Casper .
Later the CNW utilized trackage rights all the way to Shobon from Casper, their own line in very bad shape. KC Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/11/19 11:15 by GRNDMND. Date: 05/11/19 14:06 Re: A Saturday Switcher . . . Author: The-late-EMD Clean switcher. Sure that's not an SW1000?
