Western Railroad Discussion > Southern Iowa Shenanigans May 18 and May 19Date: 05/20/19 04:00 Southern Iowa Shenanigans May 18 and May 19 Author: MILW86A I had to DJ a wedding near Mt. Pleasant IA this weekend so managed a few train photos along the BNSF Ottumwa Sub as well. 1st 3 are from Saturday.
1. ISRY Connector at Albia had some interesting power there. Remember when 500s were prime power on Santa Fe pig trains? 2. Amtrak 6 wih one unit at Mt. Pleasant. The rear unit was s/o at Denver Friday night for 5 on Saturday there to get as that train burned up a traction motor in IL Friday night. 3. The engineer rocks out for the photographer. Date: 05/20/19 04:04 Re: Southern Iowa Shenanigans May 18 and May 19 Author: MILW86A Sunday I went to Burlington to meet up with a friend. Just a few from there.
1. EB at CTC Lucas St. 2. WB thru the buildings downtown 3. A Citi Rail GE brings up the rear. Date: 05/20/19 04:08 Re: Southern Iowa Shenanigans May 18 and May 19 Author: MILW86A Now headed back west towards Mt. Pleasant.
1. EB Load between Danville and New London 2. In the operators office in Mt. Pleasant an old patch board for the communication lines. 3. Amtrak 6 arriving in Mt. Pleasant. Date: 05/20/19 04:11 Re: Southern Iowa Shenanigans May 18 and May 19 Author: MILW86A More action...
WB Hopper at Mt. Pleasant WB Hopper at Mt. Pleasant EB Loads at MP 248 east of Beckwith. KCS 2nd out. Date: 05/20/19 04:15 Re: Southern Iowa Shenanigans May 18 and May 19 Author: MILW86A Now onto Ottumwa.....
1. WB Approaching the CP Diamond. Soon Ottumwa will become a quiet zone. 2. CP 474 with 135 cars and 9000 feet of train. 3. After 474 got into the yard, 475 went north and barely made it up Rutledge Hill. Date: 05/20/19 04:18 Re: Southern Iowa Shenanigans May 18 and May 19 Author: MILW86A As headed north of Albia on Hwy 5 to Des Moines, this MDMOGAL was parked north of town. A Rainbow of a consist. Something I dont see much, The rear two units are EMD Tier 2 Demos that were supposed to be given to the UP at Des Moines but apparently they didnt take them.
Thanks for looking. Comments and questions welcomed. MILW86A Date: 05/20/19 05:41 Re: Southern Iowa Shenanigans May 18 and May 19 Author: AndyBrown Nice bunch Dave! Is that the infamous Thunderbush?

The one and only. :} Date: 05/20/19 08:23 Re: Southern Iowa Shenanigans May 18 and May 19 Author: PHall Yes the 500's were mainline power, before the heavy stack trains came along.
Four axle power was great for the light TOFC trains but stack trains are much, much heavier and need the pulling power of six axle locos. Date: 05/20/19 10:15 Re: Southern Iowa Shenanigans May 18 and May 19 Author: bmarti7 Nice series - thanks for sharing.

(chuckling) I just can't help but wonder what Norman Rockwell would have thought about painting this engineer's at-the-throttle portrait... ;^) |
