Western Railroad Discussion > UP 4014 Travels EastDate: 07/08/19 21:06 UP 4014 Travels East Author: mojaveflyer A friend and I traveled to eastern Wyoming and western Nebraska to watch the World's Largest Operating Steam Engine travel towards Chicago. The trip was delayed for several hours because of a problem until it was repaired. We had fun and met quite a few interesting people while up there... I'll label the individual photos.
Photo #1- UP 4014, Big Boy, passes a UP freight train west of Brownson, NE. To the left you can see the caravan of photographers / fans pacing the train. I was glad we got out ahead of the train when it stopped to avoid the traffic. Photo #2- UP 4014 continues eastward towards where it will spend the night in Sidney, NE tonight. The freight cars were added to help with train braking. Photo #3- UP 8722 comes west from Sidney. The red and white engine at the rear of the engine consist is a short line railroad being moved by UP. More in Part II. James Nelson Thornton, CO www.flickr.com/mojaveflyer Edited 2 time(s). Photo #5- As we headed south from Sidney we ran in to this massive thunderstorm. If you look under the left side of the cloud you can see dust being kicked up by out flow from the storm. Very impressive looking storm structure! This was near Padroni, CO as we headed home. Thanks for looking! James Nelson Thornton, CO www.flickr.com/mojaveflyer Edited 1 time(s).
