BM&LP final day
Author: fbe

Here is the plan from field employees.

The 0700 departure from the power plant will be the last train to run. When it brings the loads to the plant the coal will dump then it is over. There will be a train yard celebration for employees.

That will leave a 42 day supply of coal to burn. Depending on how fast that is used per demand and boiler operations it may go longer. Contractually the plant cannot generate electricty beyond November 8.

The Navaho Nation has expressed an interest in the rail infrastructure but they want nothing to do with the wires.

Understandable. The wires aren't worth much without your friendly neighborhood power plant to juice them up. Since this line is isolated from the national network, I wonder what the Navajo would do with it?

With 4,000,000 annual tourists visiting each year with the numbers growing and some impressive scenery not easily any other way a tourist operation seems like a good plan. The infrastructure is in and the 2000 115# rail has lots of ball left. Lots of experienced employees on hand.

0700 departure when? Is this the late August date mentioned? Or sooner? Not tomorrow, I hope?
