A Moment of Mojave Monsoonal Moisture
Author: MrMRL

Ruby rays of sunlight witnessed through falling monsoonal moisture from the National Trails Highway (Historic Route 66) grade crossing at East Pisgah (MP 705.2 BNSF Needles Sub). While there, BNSF 7210 was also captured leading a westbound San Bernardino bound Z-train into the day's setting sun.

This scene captured toward the end of Tuesday, July 23, 2019 after a long day of chasing summer thunderstorms across the Mojave Desert east of Barstow, CA.

Obvious Photoshop, it hasn't rained here in months! Really nice shots though.

I know its tounge-in-check, but here is a doppler radar cap from 18:30 Tuesday afternoon, about an hour before the photos seen above were taken, while my Mom and I were still enjoying the lightning in Yermo, CA (light blue dot). Sunset pics were taken South of I-40 (near the right edge of the radar image).

Those are really nice shots, the lighting is excellent. Yah tongue in cheek, Henderson/Boulder City/The Dam nearly washed
away last night as did much of KIngman. It's rained in Fort Mohave and not a drop in Bullhead. Not only does the UP hate me
so do the weather gods!

Out at Yermo on the National Trails Highway there was a junk yard with some Santa Fe caboose bodies scattered around. all , all visible from the highway.
Was run by Floyd Wiley -- he's probably gone by now -- .He had lots of good caboose parts at very good prices. Floyd and his wife were good people.

#2 with the AA really turned out great. #3, love how the wet blacktop is lit up.

looks like one of those ink blots you’re supposed to interpret at the psychiatrist office. Really great shots.

The first photo is one of those 'once in a lifetime' moments of being in the right place at the right time.  As good as it gets. Thank you for sharing.

Robbie,
The way I see it is you have three IOTD candidates there.  Nice work and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for all the feedback folks! The painted sky lingered well after sunset as we were headed back West on I-40 (near Newberry Springs) towards dinner in B-town. I anticipate there will be more storm and train chasing opportunities as the desert (wet season) continues over the next 6-8 weeks.

I'm in agreement with Kent. Number #3 is actually my fave, but all three are outstanding!

Outstanding images, MrMRL!  I only wish you could share the wonderfully aromatic smell of the high desert after a thunderstorm.  It's indescribable as I'm sure you'll attest.

Yessir, the damp air was filled with the sweet smell of desert creosote. Even stepping into the car a day or two later back in the LA Basin I faintly detect the aroma.
