Every example of this situation I've ever heard of has involved sending the foreign locomotive home dead-in-tow -- as if it were a boxcar -- for inspection. Author: MrMRL Yep, give it back to the owner out of gas, brakes shot, oil dripping out the sides, and cab destroyed... seen that more than a few times on the transfer track, UP and BNSF.

But on the rare occasion that it does get the RM done...1. It will only be an 92 day inspection as these can be done in a shift or less...2. Basically the railroads at the end of the year will tell the other railroads we did xx number of RM's on your locomotives, how many did you do on ours? Whatever the difference is will be just be a paid back to the railroad that did more RM's during that year.
