Union Pacific & Pocatello Idaho Photos
Author: northridgeswitcher

Was in the Pocatello, Idaho area this past weekend and was able to get some photos around the Union Pacific Yard.

Photo 1 was shot at the North end of the yard.

Photo 2 was shot about a mile South of the UP Depot.

Photo 3 shows some of the UP buildings that sit in the North East Corner of the Yard.

Sorry about the quaility of the photos but distance (from the subjects) and a 15 year old camera were not helping to work in my favor.

Take care,

Is the shop building still in service.  It looks vacant due to lack of activity and vehicles.

Gerry,

When we were there it looked pretty dead.

I had not been in the area for many years and since my last visit from what we saw looks like a number of areas/buildings are no longer in use or were consolidated.

The old wheel shop that was on the North end of the yard appeared to have been moved South of the Depot.

Here are a couple of more shots of the area.

In Photo 1 not sure what the deal with the commuter car is.  Perhaps one of our T/O members who live in the Pocatello area can shed some light.

In Photo 2 this was shot in the south end of the yard.  It was more to show all the "Empty" space where some of the Hump Yard / Bowl tracks were removed years ago.

In Photo 3 this is right South on the Depot in the parking lot.  Crews change here and the lead units are right at the south end of the fuel pad.

I have a few more shots I will try and post in the next couple of days.

UP has been rebuilding the commuter cars into "blizzard busses" in Pocatello.  There's one stationed at Poky, and I believe the green one went to Ogden.  There's a couple more around the northwest that I don't have photos of.

I saw a green blizzard bus in Ogden back in May when 4014 came to town.

There’s one in Green River, too.

Nomad,

Thanks for the information.

Also from the other posters sounds like there maybe a total 2 or 3 that UP has done (?)

It would make a great modeling project too.

Nothing wrong about using a 15-year-old camera.  I'm still using a couple from the '80s.
